Mission Opportunities for Young Adults with Disabilties

https://www.lds.org/bc/content/ldsorg/callings/missionary/church-service/ycsm.ycsmstories.jpg

The LDS Church has done an excellent job of providing wonderful opportunities for young adults to serve as missionaries. They have now organized these opportunities onto an easy to navigate website. This site provides guidance with questions like: "Am I eligible to serve?" "Where can I serve?" and "How do I become a missionary?" Click here to view the site.

Teaching with Symbols

This is a great resource for those teaching Primary. There are lots of symbols to use to create schedules and help the lessons be more visual: https://www.lds.org/callings/primary/leader-resources/teaching-children/symbols?lang=eng&cid=HPTU052014157

My Thesis

I wrote my master's thesis on the topic of disabilities and the church. The official title was: Instructing Teachers of Children with Disabilities within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We created a video (see previous post) and a handout on how to help teach children with disabilities in a church setting. We compared whether the video or the handout was more effective in boosting church teacher confidence. What I found was that after even a brief training, individuals felt much more competent to work with someone with a disability. You can read my entire thesis here.

Training Video: Teaching The Spirits

I do my best to provide trainings at churches whenever I can. Due to geographic constraints, I clearly cannot be everywhere. The link below will take you to a training video we made a few years ago on teaching tips for those who teach children with disabilities in a church setting. Click here to view and share it.
